SEVEN (for my boy)
by Timothy Gager

Today he's seven
and that's about perfect
He's excited
that it's his day
a day that I forgotten
of the innocence myself
and this is going to be the best day ever
for him
for me

He's not old enough
to rebel
to say, "Screw you dad."
because he will
because they all will

We wake up
strap in his sister
drive
and have pancakes
party like we're all seven

and that's about perfect also
