Falling For An Attached Woman
by Timothy Gager

How high is that boundary
the sky?
the wire?
You know, I love the circus,
I tell you, I’ve written ‘bout that
man, the high wire artist,
I saw him, fall and die
when I was only five.
Immediately forgot it all
except for the white sheet,
an announcement,
Please It’s Time to Go Home.
I’ve written ‘bout that too, specifically,
a brown dog, because when you’re stuck,
Collins said, to put a dog in there.
He's correct, if life’s a poem,
a soft chocolate lab
makes everyone feel
real damn good.
